Virginia Cedarwood was known as the “Tree of Life” and “Medicine Tree” by east coast Native American Tribes. The wood was believed by some tribes to have been blood-stained by a powerful magician and it became sacred to them. It was burned in rituals, purification ceremonies and sweat lodges to drive away negative spirits and bring prophetic visions. Virginia Cedarwood is the only Cedar tree used for aromatherapy.
We have many Virginia Cedarwoods on our fence line. They add a welcome touch of green in the winter.
